The Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF is a high-energy, virtual event combining team building and friendly competition among corporate Canada to raise funds towards a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). Participants can choose to Spin on a stationary bike, break a Sweat at a fitness class or Stretch with a yoga class. Join us and move work aside and move for a cure!

A:

Although we have decided to host this year’s Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF virtually, we hope to transition back to in-person events in the future. We will continue to monitor and update you on the status of our 2022 events as more information becomes available.

A:

This year the Ride will come to life in an all-new interactive virtual environment. Join for your Ride hour and then stick around to network with your peers, meet our partners, and more!

A:

No! The Ride welcomes participants of all fitness levels. Set a pace that you are comfortable with in order to prevent health risks and injury.

A:

The Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF provides a dynamic virtual environment to put your industry’s competitive spirit to the test. By participating in our Industry Challenge by spinning, sweating or stretching, you and your colleagues can make a positive impact for the T1D community while enjoying some friendly competition with your corporate rivals. Which company will take home the prize, and bragging rights, in 2021?

A:

All participants who raise $1,000 or more are considered VIP Riders. We are so thankful to our VIP Riders for all their efforts to make move T1D research forward. As a VIP Rider, we will recognize your contribution on October 7th within our virtual environment and with additional fundraising rewards. To learn more visit our Fundraising Rewards page.

A:

Every participant who reaches the $250 fundraising level automatically joins JDRF’s Club 250 and illustrates their passion for finding a cure!

A: Spin, Sweat and Stretch classes are approximately 35 minutes and the event program runs for approximately 60 minutes. But, come early or stick around after your session and virtually mingle with colleagues, industry peers and our partners in our brand-new interactive and immersive virtual environment.
A: We encourage teams to have at least five people but there is no limit to how many people you can have on a team.

A:

There is no registration fee; however, the Ride is a key fundraising event for JDRF that helps drive our mission to accelerate the pace of T1D research. We encourage all Riders to raise a minimum suggested amount of $150 per individual.

A: No, you don’t have to register your whole team but you can during registration by selecting “Add Participants” and then entering the personal details of each of your Team Members. Need help getting your team registered? Reach out to our Ride Support Team at ride@jdrf.ca or 1.877.505.5373.

A:

When you reach out to family and friends to support your fundraising efforts, being sensitive to what other people are feeling or experiencing right now is important. Share your connection to the Ride or T1D so people understand why the Ride is so important to you. Emphasize the need for donations to keep research moving forward and encourage people to give what they can.

A: We’re confident that every participant can reach the suggested $150 fundraising minimum and are pleased to offer support and advice so you can exceed this target!
A:

While we encourage each participant to fundraise a minimum suggested amount of $150, we recognize that some teams will choose to fundraise as a team. The minimum suggested team fundraising amount is $1,000. Please note, however, that fundraising rewards are awarded based on revenue raised by individual participants only (not team fundraising or corporate matched revenue).

A:

Fundraising rewards are awarded based on individual fundraising. For example, if a participant raises $250 and they are part of a team that raises an additional $600 in team fundraising activities, the participant is only entitled to receive fundraising rewards for the $250 raised as an individual.

A: Participants who raise $250 or more are eligible to receive fundraising rewards. You can learn more about our Fundraising Rewards program HERE. In order to be eligible for fundraising rewards, all fundraising dollars must be submitted to JDRF by October 28, 2021.
A: JDRF pays for all fundraising rewards. To help JDRF direct more funds to research, participants can donate their prize back to JDRF. JDRF negotiates discounts on purchased prizes nationally.
A:

We encourage participants to submit their pledges before October 7th via our online fundraising system or through the offline funds process. Should you have any questions, please contact a member of our Ride Support Team at at 1.877.505.5373 or via email at ride@jdrf.ca.

A:

A:

Thank you for your outstanding fundraising. Individuals are awarded a maximum of $500 in e-gift cards.

A:

Absolutely. You are welcome to share your fundraising rewards with your team if you wish.

Participation

A:

No, but you might want to! The Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF is a 1-hour virtual program. Come early or stick around after your session to network with your colleagues, chat with our partners and more in our brand-new interactive and immersive ecosystem. You won’t want to miss it!

A: There is no minimum age to participate but we recommend those 18 and under to get parental permission before registering.
A:

Offline Funds

A:

When we upgraded the Participant Centre, we found that the Offline Funds section needed a little more work before we shared it with our participants this year. JDRF has put together a process to help safely and efficiently process Offline Funds, get them reflected on fundraising pages and ensure that tax receipts are quickly processed to your donors. Should you have any questions about the Offline Funds process in 2021, please reach out to a member of our Ride Support Team at ride@jdrf.ca or via phone at 1.877.505.5373.
